Arson

The Arson Task Force is responsible for the identification and apprehension of those responsible for intentionally setting fires. The Arson Task Force investigates a wide range of fire related crimes, including but not limited to, anything from Burning of Personal Property to First and Second Degree Arsons as well as other fires.

The Arson Task Force works with local fire departments, the Cumberland County Fire Marshall’s Office, The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as other local, state and federal agencies to accomplish this task.

The Arson Task Force currently consists of two full time sworn law enforcement officers, a Sergeant and a Detective dedicated to investigating fires, as well as sworn and non-sworn volunteer Fire Investigators.

Members of the Arson Task Force are available 24 hours a day to assist local fire departments in investigating fires that are believed to be suspicious. The fact that a member of the Arson Task Force is on a fire scene should not be an indicator that a crime has taken place, but rather that an investigation is being conducted to determine if a crime has occurred.

Please contact the Arson Task Force if you have any information concerning suspicious fires.

Remember to check the batteries in your smoke detector!!!
