Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers (SROs) patrol all ninety (90) school campuses belonging to the Cumberland County School System; including those located in the municipalities of Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Spring Lake, and Stedman. While on campus, SROs are responsible for enforcing state and local laws as well as instructing students, faculty, staff, and the general public on these laws when appropriate. SROs provide security during school hours and at special school events on campus, i.e., athletic events, dances, assemblies, etc.
The Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program, developed for middle and elementary school students, is also administered by SROs. The Sheriff’s Office SROs function in many other capacities within each assigned school. SROs serve as liaisons between Cumberland County Schools and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
