The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit is a combined unit consisting of Special Victims Unit and Youth Services.
The Special Victims Unit is responsible for investigations involving child sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect, as well as caretaker abuse against the elderly and/or disabled. Investigations are conducted using a multidisciplinary approach in which investigators from the Sheriff’s Office work cooperatively with investigators from the Cumberland County Department of Social Services. Investigators also collaborate with representatives from other community agencies (i.e. Cumberland County Schools, Southern Regional Area Health Education Center, Mental Health, etc) for any needed victim services.
The Youth Services Unit handles all cases involving youthful offenders (ages 6-15). This unit works closely with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) to provide services to the youth of Cumberland County.
