The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing/Crime Prevention Unit is law enforcement’s liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and Neighborhood Community Watch Committees, local businesses and other organizations. The Community Policing Unit assists neighborhoods and communities in organizing Community Watch Programs and also assists individual citizens and businesses with security surveys of their properties.
The Community Policing Unit is responsible for deploying the Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command Posts to crime scenes, special events, and any other incidents that either one of the Sheriff’s Office two Mobile Command Posts may be needed. The Community Policing Unit maintains all Sheriff’s Office speed measuring devices and are responsible for the operation of all Sheriff’s Office substations located throughout the county.
Deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Unit are responsible for conducting safety briefings to businesses, neighborhood watch committees, churches and senior centers. Community Policing deputies also conduct bike patrol in neighborhoods and around businesses and conduct numerous fund raisers to fund the “Shop with the Sheriff” program. The “Shop with the Sheriff” program assists needy families in Cumberland County during the Christmas holidays.
Other areas of the Community Policing Unit consist of Nuisance and Abatement and Project Life Saver.
