The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Control System is designed for the safe keeping of all evidence, confiscated property and found property, turned in by members of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Evidence Control Officers are responsible for receiving and the safe storage of all evidence and property that is properly seized. Once received, Evidence Control Officers assign a storage location to each item and record the information. Evidence Control Officers are responsible for developing and maintaining a master file of all property and evidence entering the system to include the original “Evidence Property Voucher” completed by the officer turning in the item. Files are maintained and all changes in physical custody are documented in this file. When evidence or other properties no longer have evidentiary value, the disposal process is initiated. All evidence, found property or confiscated property will be returned to its rightful owner, destroyed, retained or disposed of at public auction, as permitted by law.
