If you are seeking any other kind of handgun permit, please note that the Sheriff’s Office no longer provides any other type of pistol purchase or other handgun or firearm permit except, concealed handgun permits. The Special Services Section of the Sheriff’s Office still provides concealed handgun permits and various other services.
If you have a concealed permit that is going to expire call the Gun Permits Office at 910-677-5469 so that an employee can walk you through the process of renewal.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Special Services Office performs an assortment of services daily. The Special Services Office issues all permits to all concealed carry permits that are applied for, and issued through the Special Services Office. Special Services also conducts criminal background checks for job applicants, housing and education. Fingerprints are electronically scanned and printed on two cards for job applicants, professional licenses and concealed carry permit applicants. Open warrant checks can also be obtained for those seeking shelter in one of Cumberland County Homeless Shelters. Open warrant checks for those seeking temporary shelter are free of charge.
In an ongoing effort to provide better service to Cumberland County’s residents, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has modified its concealed carry permit application process by providing an online order and payment system using a third party vendor.
Once the application is submitted, the applicant will receive an email, text message, voicemail or a combination of the three in regard to their application process. The applicant will be allowed to set up an appointment online to come in and complete the process to include fingerprinting. *You must bring the original certificate from your NC firearm safety course to your appointment when applying for a new concealed carry permit.
This new and improved process will reduce the time that an applicant will need to take from work as it will be more convenient and accessible.

Service Prices
Any services requiring payment must be done before 4:00 PM from Monday through Thursday and 3:00 PM on Friday. NO money can be accepted after that time.
